A Performance Evaluation of a Persistent World Manager Protocol to Support Mobile Collaborative Virtual Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
Many protocols have been proposed to improve persistency and data availability in Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs). Two approaches have been proposed in the literature. Structured peer-to-peer network such as a distributed hash table (DHT) while the other approach uses an unstructured peer-to-peer network. With the rapidly increasing use of personal mobile devices, we are facing new opportunities and challenges in providing persistency for Mobile Collaborative Virtual environment (MCVE) applications. Our research examines the issues involved in Gnutella network deployments for mobile environments when these environments establish a persistent world. In this paper, we demonstrate how persistency can be integrated with a replication protocol in order to implement a successful MCVE system. The resulting approach limits the broadcast nature of the Gnutella network in order to offer a realistic virtual environment.

This paper describes the design and operation of VGuide, a synchronous virtual reality tool that enables one user to lead a group of users synchronously through a virtual world written in VRML. VGuide employs the services of Pavilion, a middleware framework with support for developing collaborative web-based applications. The major components of VGuide and their interaction are described, follo...
متن کاملLive Migration of User Environments Across Wide Area Networks
A complex challenge in mobile computing is to allow the user to migrate her highly customised environment while moving to a different location and to continue work without interruption. I motivate why this is a highly desirable capability and conduct a survey of the current approaches towards this goal and explain their limitations. I then propose a new architecture to support user mobility by ...
متن کاملA Mobile and Fog-based Computing Method to Execute Smart Device Applications in a Secure Environment
With the rapid growth of smart device and Internet of things applications, the volume of communication and data in networks have increased. Due to the network lag and massive demands, centralized and traditional cloud computing architecture are not accountable to the high users' demands and not proper for execution of delay-sensitive and real time applications. To resolve these challenges, we p...
متن کاملSupport Dynamic Network Architecture for Large-Scale Collaborative Virtual Environment
Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs) is a promising technology which provides shared virtual world to the geographically dispersed people to interact with each others. However, the scalability of existing CVE systems is limited due to the constraints in processing power and network speed of each participating host. In this paper, a Mobile Agent based framework for large scale CVE -MACVE is...
متن کاملNavigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network
Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...
